Restoring Hope and Empowering Vulnerable Children in Central Uganda

Bewell Child Care Initiative, a non-profit organization, works with vulnerable children in need of support in Nakaseke, central Uganda. BCCI was founded in September, 2019 with the aim of supporting children without hope (e.g. homeless, abandoned, +HIV, street children, orphaned, children living with disabilities, children living in abusive life, victims of domestic violence and vulnerable child mothers) to fight for a better future. Nakasongola District formerly part of Luweero, which was notorious for the persecution of civilians during the Luweero War, between the rebel National Resistance Army and the government of Milton Obote. Many residents were either forcibly recruited or killed by both sides during the five-year Ugandan Bush War which left many families separated and traumatized.

Before founding Bewell Child Care Initiative, David Muhindo native of Nakaseke spent eight years volunteering and using his own money to support needy children and their families of Nakaseke. In 2019, he met Sanyu Irene, Social worker and Senior Probation and Welfare Officer of Nakasongola District. Irene supported David’s project until 2019 when they joined forces and founded the organization ‘Bewell Child Care Initiative’.

Bewell Child Care Initiative has its main office in Nakaseke District, where it offers, Orphan Care, Computer Training and other life skills like tailoring, hairdressing and cosmetology, carpentry, shoe, book, candle, liquid and bar soap, metal fabrication for, youth, widows and young single mothers supplemented with psycho-social support and family strengthening.

Bewell Child Care Initiative (Bewell Children’s Home) is a temporary home for our beneficiaries (orphans and homeless children), a place where the community comes together and where youth can participate in life changing activities like business skill training, sports activities, traditional dance, counseling and spiritual guidance.

BCCI has beneficiaries from across Uganda and is conducting home visits and resettlements in different parts of the country.

Together, with the support of friends, family and their onsite team, David and Irene are doing everything they can to build an organization that serves and supports the communities of Central Uganda and significantly improves the situations of vulnerable children; +HIV, abandoned, neglected, stranded, street children, orphaned, single mothers, children living with disabilities and their families through offering shelter, psycho-social & spiritual, educational & medical support. BCCI works hand in hand with local authorities, partners and community elders to be able to fight against stigma and sensitize about important issues like GBV, discrimination, teenage pregnancy, domestic violence, mental health, etc.

Our work is based on Christian values. While saying that it is important for us that regardless of the background of a person they feel accepted and loved in our community.
